Jesse Jobe was back at the strong man stuff and doing very well. In Jesse's words;
Well just got back from my meet. Had a great time and can finally say I did very well. I got 2nd out of 4 people. Good for a silver medal.

1st event log press for reps with 200lbs got 5 and that was all I could muster. 1st place guy got 16 and 2nd got 10. I watched how they do it and know what I need to work on. I tied for 3rd on this event with Corey.

2nd event Super Yoke walk with 550lbs
I am still in shock as to how fast I did this. I won this event with a time of 8.48 sec. I love the yoke I really do.

3rd event farmers walk, keg carry, duck walk
I won this event also with a time of 28 sec flat. First time I have ever finished this without dropping the duck walk.

4th event stones
I got 3rd on these I sucked on the stones today. Zach got all 5 so I knew I was going to have to do really well here to beat him. The stones got me today but I am going to attack them with a vengence.

Very happy with my performance. Highlights of the day was watching Zach get 16 reps with the log. Watching Kevin and John battle it out. It was nice getting meet all the new people I got to meet. Can't wait for all the meets next year next meet is Shawn's meet. I am gonna training like a madman for this meet.

UK Southwest Strongman Competition
Martin Smith made an OUTSTANDING showing at this competition. In Martin's words:
"Out of 13 I came 2nd.

I don't knw exactly how I placed on most of the events. I had a great early start on the deadlift (car) hold, Yoke & Farmers which put me in 1st place at the halfway mark. The next two events; the car flip & the arm over arm I think I dropped a few points. I finished both events, but was about 5th on each. I did well on the crucifix hold and think I may have won that one pulling me up to 3rd and 2 points off the lead. The medley of tyre flip, barrel loads and duck walk I was hoping to do well on and the 3 other guys from my gym that competed said that I should be able to win this event, with that in mind, I paced myself on the tyre and barrels hoping to do the duck walk without stopping, but unfortunately fatigue got the better of me an I had to stop twice on the duck walk. This gave me 2nd on the event and moveed me upto 2nd overall.

I'm fairly pleased with the result. Had I not had a hamstring problem and had a chance to practice the car flip & the arm over arm....who knows.

All in all, it was an enjoyable day. There was a great team spirit with all the other competitors as well as the other guys from my gym that came along. Occasional training partners John Pingstone (posts here occasionally) came in at 6th, Pete Oliver placed 7th and my regular training buddy Craig Randal placed 8th which is pretty good as he only weighs 175lbs. He also seemed to be getting the most cheers."

June 24

Gus Lohman Strongman Competition
Rodney Wood made a strong showing (no pun intended) at this competition. In Rodneys words:
Results

I don't have times, but I can tell you numbers and placing.

Lightweight class 200lbs and under 7 or 8 competitors in this class, several expreinced strongman competitors and a couple of PLers who I have competited with in the past Justin Cantwell and Nathan Gentges.

Events

Overhead Press Medly

2" Axle 180
8" Log 200
Barbell 220
12" Log 240 Miss

Technique just went out the window took three attmepts at the 12" Log and the closest one was the third. Really thought I could nail all three, but just meet more practice with the 12" log. 2nd Place by time. Will Knoll won the Log Press

DL Meldy

Axle Pull 350
Barbell Pull 400
Partial Pull 550
Shouldered a 230lb Stone

I hit this one with out a hitch from start to finish and place first by time Justin Cantwell was second.

Farmers Walks

220lbs 100 feet with one turn on an incline going up and decline coming back. 2nd place to Will Knoll who was a amazing he ran the thing up, back, fell down, got up and still beat me, dang what a run.

Kegs run and loaded in the back of a pickup. Nathan Gentges and some of them where asking me who to do this one. I told them this one was nothing more than picking them up, running to the truck, pitch them in the truck, no technique just retarded strength event, LOL. I had to guess on the keg weights they changed one keg when the went to the heavier class so I had to guestmate what we used. By the way this one is a gasser.

20 feet 200
15 feet 225
10 feet 250
5 feet 275
Next to Truck 300

It was close for the first 3 places between the top three places. Justin and Will all loaded the five stones so needed all five and fast, I won on time. This is a thrill because stones are the king event at a strongman meet and to win them and grab 1st place was a thrill.

Stones

225 to 58"
230 to 53",
250 to 48",
270 to 43",
300 to 39"

Very impressive strength and stamina Rodney!
