Okay everyone, 2002 is about over, time to set some goals for next year, 2003. Here are mine:

For Powerlifting:
Squat: 575
Bench: 350
Deadlift: 500
Total: 1425

For football:
Just get my groin stronger than ever, and kick more on this offseason than I did last.

By the end of 2003 I'd like to make Class I as either a 165 or 181 (would require a total of 1257 or 1350 respectively). I will do two full meets in 2003 and at least the first one will be sans squat suit or bench shirt. Gear or not I will hit the Class I total and will squat and DL 500+.

600 squat
425 bench
600 dead

That's what I'm shooting for by April. By the end of the year, I'd like to start competing in the open class

Squat 400lbs
bench 300lbs
Deadlift 3x bodyweight
Preferably as a 148 but the bodyweight does not mean as much to me as making the lifts.

Good to plan ahead!

I'd like to make a smooth and successful transition from benching to full powerlifting and be able to at least...

Squat 225
Bench 150
Deadlift 225
Total 600

...staying in the 97 lb. wt. class...without getting injured.

To get to this point, I have the goal of getting into the gym 4x's a week and to keep the same movements on the same days of the week if at all possible. I'm also going to work on my flexibility and my diet (increase protein and cut down on the carbs, fat, and sweets).

I plan to hit 3 meets this year... one full and two push-pull. My first meet of the year, the APA Midwest Open in Blue Springs, MO, will be my first full meet where I do no token lifts and give all 3 lifts 110%. Hopefully I will hit my goals for this particular meet, staying strong throughout!

Some other goals... transition back into full time college successfully and make awesome grades (Dean's List?)... get my son Glen ready for Kindergarten... stay healthy... and become more thankful and remember to put God in charge of everything...

Stay under 275lbs. I HOPE I can do that!!

Squat- 550+
Bench 350+
Dead 550+

Thats a 25lb improvement in bench and deads and 45 in squats, but I think as I get used to the suit 550 will be a reasonable goal.

1. be more consistant with the training....took a

lot of time off this past year which is why I

missed some of my goals this year.

2. Enter a PL meet where I can (might be at

Kennewick if I am in this area at the time).

3. bench 300 (around 250ish now), squat 400

around 350ish now), DL 500 (could probably get

450 now)

2003 is going to be a busy year outside of lifting with birth of son #2, moving, etc. Therefore, I don't know how much competing I'll be doing after the January 25th push/pull. So, goal #1 will be to do at least 1 full meet. If I meet this goal, I'll be looking for lifts of at least 600-400-650 at 220 or 242. Another goal is to successfully direct my first meet. (It is already in the planning stages with a tentative date of October 11th.)

eric, 575 sounds like a big jump, i need some of whatever your eating :)

let's see reasonable goals:

SQ 400
DL 500 sounds pretty ambitious but i've made pretty fast gains in that lift
BP 300

BW stay around 185-90, and depending on the circumstance lift as either 181 or 198.

maintain decent fitness level

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Resolutions

Posted By: Sanjay Gupta
Date: Wednesday, 25 December 2002, at 11:06 a.m.

Just wanted to wish every one the best of the holidays, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I am off to Florence Italy tomorrow from Detroit till the middle of Jan. I have not posted much or worked out much this year but injuries have kept me out of much of anything.

Here are my goals for 2003:

(1) Get surgery to relieve the Mortons Neuroma.
(2) Build a stong cardio base between March and May.
(3) Run a September 2003 Marathon locally in 3:15 or better (Odds are good that I will do Detroit, its a fast flat course with good support).
(4) Complete a 40K TT in sub one hour (this will be more difficult than the 3:15 marathon goal)
(5) Run the local mile race in sub six minutes (again very very hard but I think I have it in me if my foot is okay).
(6) Compete in at least 3 triathlons over the summer with one being a olympic distance or longer.
(7) Improve my bench to exceed 1.5x BW by year end (approx 240#, the weight need to come down a little and the bench needs to go up :-))
(8) Improve my squat to 350# or better by year end (my foot surgeon to be says its okay to DL but not squat right now, go figure --- LOL).
(9) Improve my deadlift to 350# or better by year end (managing about 270# right now on minimal training).

May all your lifts be PR's.

Have a great one all :-).

Cheers,
Sanjay
