Pulldowns can be done to work the lats and upper back.
 They are a good substitute when a person is unable to
do chin-ups.

Pull the bar down to your upper or lower
chest.  Some lifters prefer to position themselves
vertical and others prefer more of an inclined
position.  Regardless of the position you choose, be
sure to maintain it and not bend back and forth at the
waist.  A variety of grips and handles can be used
when performing this exercise.  Underhand, overhand,
close, wide, and parallel are a few options.
